There are some things we grow around us, and some things we quietly grow within.
A Garden of Her Own imagines a woman carrying an entire landscape across her skin — flowers unfolding over her face, vines travelling down her neck, colour spilling into pattern and ornament. She looks outward, but so much of the painting seems to be happening inward.
For me, the work is about the private worlds we carry with us. The parts of ourselves that keep growing, changing and blooming even when nobody else can see them.
Bold from across the room and full of tiny discoveries when you come closer, this is a piece that asks for a little time.
